The Ovation Guitar: A Connecticut Built Guitar & Music of the late 60's and early 70's In-Person
Jim Lenn will discuss the Connecticut made Ovation guitar and the role it played during the singer/songwriter development of the '70s. Jim will also be performing some songs from the era that typify the Ovation sound. The Ovation guitar, built in New Hartford Connecticut, played a significant role in the foundation and flourishing of the singer/songwriter explosion of the late 60's and early 70's music scene. This guitar filled a void created by the advancement of live sound systems and propelled this segment of the music industry to the forefront. In this informative and fun presentation, Jim Lenn will explore the role the Ovation guitar played as well as some of the music that was performed at this time on the instrument.
Jim Lenn grew up in Southern California and started playing music at the age of 8. He was actively involved in the South Bay music scene until his relocation to the East Coast in 2000. Wasting no time after the move, Jim played in the local folk/gospel group East of Nashville for six years and then joined the popular country group The Truckstop Troubadours for a two-year stint before starting the New England Ukulele Ensemble. Still performing locally, as a solo performer, he is also the director and one of the founding members of the Kinetic Ukes ukulele performance ensemble based out of Simsbury, Connecticut.
